Shantou Runke Biological Engineering Co. Ltd. is a major manufacturer of marine microalgal products. The company has its own Research Centre, Pilot Plant Facilities as well as Sales Department. The company with the technical support of experts from Chinese Academy of Sciences and Hong Kong University has made a great breakthrough in marine biotechnological research and has successfully produced DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) using microalgae. The DHA project has led to several awards under the High and Novel Technology Fund of the Economic and Trading Commission of China in 2002. After achieving the project of the innovation Fund For Small Technology-based Firms (Innofund) of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Key Torque Scheme from the Department of Guangdong province. In 2004 Runke has made a successful breakthrough in biotechnological research and has produced AA, Now has realized industrialization, the products include AA oil AA powder etc.

The successful transformation of results of high-tech research to industrial mass production of DHA by Runke indicates that marine microalgal biotechnology of China has joined the foremost players of the world.
